Welcome to the Close:Up San Francisco Short Film Festival, established in 2020 and organized by HF Productions.
CU SF Short Film Festival aims to provide not only a memorable cinematic experience for audiences, but also an enriching festival event for independent filmmakers. Our main goal is to increase your audience reach and engagement, as well as to further support your development after the festival circuit. We're looking for the most exciting and innovative storytelling in different genres, films that challenge and inspire audiences.
After some difficult months, we have taken the tough decision to move the 2022 edition of the festival online for the safety of all of us.
In this edition, we are happy to present a selection of 19 outsanding films from well-crafted animation, to surreal dramas, light documentaries and odd comedies; films that can make you reflect, feel and connect.
Browse through the film guide below to find out more information about the films in competition and we hope to e-meet you all in May!

Sophie Kargman
Best Short Film
This past December Sophie wrapped principal photography on her feature film directorial debut, Susie Searches, based on her award-winning proof-of-concept of the same name. The film stars Kiersey Clemons and Alex Wolff and co-starred Jim Gaffigan, Ken Marino, Alex Moffat, David Walton, Dolly Wells and Rachel Sennott. 141 Entertainment produced it.
Her most recent short, Query, starring Justice Smith, Graham Patrick Martin and Armie Hammer had its World Premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and then went on to play at over two dozen festivals around the world where it won numerous awards. It was then acquired by Canal+ in France, Movistar in Spain and HBO Europe.
As a writer, Sophie sold a true-crime series to eOne Entertainment. Currently, she's developing a darkly comedic drama series with Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, I Am Legend). As an actress, she's been featured in many TV shows and independent films. She is a graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in English, Psychology and Theatre.
